It's good, but then the author ruins his own premise towards the end: "Free
fonts will never match the quality of the fonts offered by top type design
foundries." Any intelligent reader will wonder why, when some of the free
fonts described by the article are designed by established professionals.
Might there be a reason? None is given. I think it's just lazy rhetoric,
but it's annoying all the same.

If he means “free fonts” as a whole, compared to “the fonts offered by top type design foundries” as a whole, then maybe i can see that. But if he is talking about individual fonts, that just seems like a dumb statement, because there are plenty of examples of free fonts that offer better ‘quality’ than some non-free fonts from the ’top design foundries’.
