Dear OFLib folks,

Nicolas and I have completed the final adjustments to update 3 of the OFL-FAQ. Thanks for all your suggestions and discussions on the draft posted in May - they were very helpful. Here is a brief summary of the changes since that first draft:

1.1: More description for users regarding what is allowed, mostly to reduce our user support burden
1.15: Reminder that even if a font travels inside a doc the authorship and licensing should be preserved
1.23: New - about services that deliver fonts to the desktop
1.24: New - about restrictions on fonts delivered by services
3.7: More information on trademark law
3.8: Encouragement to use special names for fonts in development

There were also many small changes of wording here and there, but nothing major.

The main OFL-FAQ page and downloadable files have been updated with the latest version:

http://scripts.sil.org/OFL-FAQ_web

Note that the paper on Web Fonts and Reserved Font names is still a separate document. We had considered rolling it into an appendix to the OFL-FAQ itself, but decided (for now) that the two would remain separate. That paper has not been recently updated, and remains open for further discussion:

http://scripts.sil.org/OFL_web_fonts_and_RFNs

Thanks again for your help in maintaining the OFL model,

Victor Gaultney

That's a very good idea. It's a practise that would also help designers and users in the area of version numbers for fonts too.
